In his ground-breaking book The Network Society (1996), Spanish sociologist and communications scholar Manuel Castells noted that, in a truly connected society underpinned by the widespread deployment of information and communication technologies (ICTs), these technologies become “extensions of the human mind”.

“When we think, and how we think,” reasoned Castells, “become expressed in goods, services, material and intellectual output, be it food, shelter, transportation and communications systems, computers, missiles, health, education or images”.

If one were to take a snapshot of technological development over the past couple of years, one would notice a distinct trend towards user-friendliness, evident in everything from mobile phones to microwave ovens.  Technology has embraced intuitiveness to the point that human intervention is minimal and, when it does occur, it’s completely seamless.

Take your cellphone, for example. Chances are, you can unlock it with your fingerprint, and make a call, draft an email, make a note or browse the Internet without having to type out a single word, thanks to the built-in artificial intelligence.

Centurion Systems has embraced a design philosophy that incorporates intuitiveness and user-friendliness. We believe in creating products that make your life easier, thanks to innovations such as:

Graphic interfaces and setup wizards

If you’ve ever installed a D-Series gate motor such as a D5-Evo or a D10, you’ll know what a pleasure it is to commission the system and configure the operator’s many features. An intuitive setup wizard guides you through the entire setup procedure, while the controller’s supremely easy navigation – made possible through an LCD user interface coupled with a four-button cluster – lets you effortlessly flip through features and operating parameters.

Intelligent diagnostic feedback

CENTURION gate motors perpetually monitor system health in real-time, keeping tabs on “vital statistics” such as current draw, charging voltage and the position of the origin magnet relative to the motor.

What makes CENTURION gate motors particularly sophisticated and advanced, however, is their ability to intelligently articulate “where it hurts”, so to speak. Our D-Series range provides both audible and visual feedback of the gate status at any given time, as well as reporting on any fault conditions that it may encounter.  In addition, a designated diagnostic screen makes fault-finding a breeze.

The Service Exchange Programme

In 2017, CENTURION launched an exciting and innovative initiative geared towards drastically reducing client downtime as well as expediting repair turnaround.

Dubbed the CENTURION Service Exchange Programme, the initiative has taken the industry by storm, and is based on the following basic model:

  1. The installer is called to site by the client, and assesses the nature and category of the repair job by referring to the criteria as set out by Centurion Systems.
  2. The installer then quotes the client based on the category into which the job is likely to fall.
  3. If the client accepts, the installer takes the part, or parts, in need of repair to his nearest CENTURION distributor or branch where a supplementary assessment is performed by a service technician to ensure that the installer quoted his client correctly.
  4. Finally, the technician issues the installer or distributor with a service exchange unit and the installer is sent on his way to install the service exchange unit at the client’s place of residence or business, as the case may be.

Whereas in the past clients would have had to wait up to a week for their gate system to be returned to service, the entire process – from the initial call-out to having the gate up and running – can now take as little as an hour or two. CENTURION has identified an area in the repair process in which there is considerable room for improvement, and the Service Exchange Programme is the company’s reply to the market’s pronounced requirement for expeditious turnaround times.

Wireless technology

Wireless solutions are quicker and easier to install, saving you hours onsite and enabling you to do more jobs and substantially increase your profit margin. Your clients will also thank you for not defacing their properties and saving them a wad of cash on cabling costs. CENTURION’s ever-expanding wireless range includes keypads, safety beams and GSM-based devices for remote monitoring and control.

Clever design

One example of CENTURION’s ongoing commitment to providing our clients with reliable access automation products that are easily maintained and largely autonomous, can be seen in our D2 Turbo sliding gate motor; a domestic operator the click-together design and modular construction of which make it a veritable dream to assemble and disassemble for maintenance procedures. This design philosophy is also evident in CENTURION’s CLAWS roadway spikes and TRAPEX barrier fences, both of which are constructed in a modular fashion (which also makes them easy to transport and tailor to individual site requirements).
